Tutorial: Install VLC in openSUSE 12.3

VLC Media Player is a magical software that can play a variety of audio and video files. VLC is also able to play multimedia files from CDs, VCDs, and DVDs, even capable of streaming from the internet. The advantage compared to other media player software is owned completeness codecs, so VLC is able to play almost all audio and video file formats. VLC can run on various operating systems, such as Windows, Mac and Linux.

This article describes the tutorial install VLC in linux openSUSE. There are several ways to install vlc, ie:

  1. Install VLC using "1-click install"
    You just click at this picture


  2. Install VLC using "zyper"
    Run Terminal, then type this command line:
    sudo zypper ar http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/12.3 VLC
    sudo zypper mr -r VLC
    sudo zypper in vlc
    *12.3 can be altered to suit your openSUSE version
  3. Install Offline (for specific user openSUSE KDE)
    This way you do not need internet connection during installation, but you need to download the file first.
    This package of VLC offline already comes with its dependencies, so you do not have to bother looking for it again.
    Download it first,





    Then
    extract to your directory, and read the instructions how to install the readme.txt file there.
